Battening Down is one of the earlier Riven Tides jobs Apollo sends you on in ARC Raiders, and it's less about fighting and more about knowing where to put your boots. You're checking the northern coastline for damage, contamination, and one very annoying oil leak. It can feel a bit like busywork if you're wandering blind, especially when other Raiders are sniffing around for loot, Raider Tokens, or easy kills. The good news is that all three objectives sit along the same stretch of coast, so once you know the route, the quest is pretty quick.
Where to photograph the seawall damage
Start with the seawall if you spawn anywhere near the middle or north side of the map. Head for Wavebreaker and look for the huge concrete barrier running across the shoreline. You're not searching for some tiny hidden object here. The cracked section is close to a broken opening in the wall, not far from the containers and bits of industrial clutter nearby. Walk right up to the damaged concrete and wait for the interaction prompt. You don't need to bring a camera or equip anything special. Just trigger the prompt and the photo objective will count.
How to collect the shoreline sample
The sample is over toward Azzurro Beach, on the western side of the coast. Most players overshoot it because they go too far into the hotel area. Don't do that. Stay near the water and move a little north of the main buildings. You're looking for a messy patch on the sand, the sort of seaweed and algae pile that looks out of place against the cleaner shoreline. Get close, let the prompt appear, and analyze it. It's a short interaction, but try not to do it while standing in the open for ages. Check the dunes, rocks, and hotel approaches first.
Fixing the leaking oil pipe
The pipe repair is the one that catches people out. It's tucked away in the northeast, past Wavebreaker, where the coastline starts feeling more industrial. Follow the shore east until you spot the big pipes running toward the sea. The leak is low down, near where the pipe meets the beach. From a distance it's easy to miss, so look for the rainbow sheen on the water instead. That oily shimmer is your giveaway. Move in, hold the interact button, and patch it. If ARC units are nearby, clear them or pull them away first, because the repair animation can leave you in a bad spot.
Best route and survival tips
Your route should depend on where the raid drops you. If you come in from the west, grab the Azzurro Beach sample first, then push east to Wavebreaker, and finish at the oil pipe. If you spawn on the far east, do the pipe, swing back to the seawall, then decide whether the beach is worth the risk. You can split the quest across several raids, so don't force it if the lobby feels nasty. The northern beach has long sightlines and not much friendly cover. Use concrete supports, containers, and wreckage whenever you can. A stable mid-range gun helps more than a flashy close-range setup here.
Turning the quest in
After all three tasks are marked complete, extract safely and report back to Apollo. He rewards you with Hotel Keycard No. 107, which is worth keeping if you enjoy looting locked hotel rooms, along with three Smoke Grenade Traps for messy escapes. If you're planning more Riven Tides runs, sites like U4GM are often used by players looking for game currency or item-related services, but in the raid itself your best tools are still patience, map sense, and leaving before greed gets you killed.
