If you're building around the Goblin's Retreat, start with your Elite kills rather than waiting around for a portal. Nemesis Bracers turn shrine activations into extra Elite packs, which gives your dungeon runs a rhythm: find a shrine, clear the pack, keep moving. When sorting through D4 items, look for gear that supports quick clears without leaving you too fragile. Mephisto's Evil Power adds another layer by giving each Elite kill a chance to reveal a Horadric Altar through Horadric Hunter. More encounters mean more opportunities, though you still shouldn't expect a portal on demand.
Build toward the portal, not just the drops
The attraction of Diablo 4 Season 15's Goblin's Retreat is simple: Treasure Goblins, chest rewards, and a boss encounter packed into one hidden area. Getting there is the awkward part. The Curious Coin portal has a low appearance rate, so wandering through Nightmare Dungeons without the right War Plans setup wastes opportunities. Greed is Good is the essential starting point because it lets defeated Treasure Goblins potentially open that portal. Your build needs to kill those goblins quickly, too. Extra encounters won't help much if they escape while you're still clearing nearby enemies.
Keep the altar loop moving
Pair Greed is Good with Altar of Avarice and Horadric Hunter. Altar of Avarice replaces Horadric Altars with Goblin Altars, whose encounters summon Treasure Goblins. Horadric Hunter reveals another altar after 25 Elite kills. That's where shrine-heavy routes and Escalation Nightmare Dungeons become useful: you're feeding the same loop instead of treating every goblin sighting as an isolated event. With Mephisto's Evil Power equipped, individual Elite kills can reveal altars before you reach that threshold. Pick a dungeon difficulty you can clear comfortably; a slow fight interrupts the whole routine.
| Option | Role in the route |
|---|---|
| Nemesis Bracers | More Elites from shrine activations |
| Horadric Hunter | An altar after 25 Elite kills |
| Mephisto's Evil Power | Additional altar chances from individual Elite kills |
Don't rush past the corridor chests
Once the Curious Coin portal appears, you'll enter the Path of the Coin. Take a breath here. Its Resplendent Chests can hold gem fragments, crafting materials, splinters, gold, and equipment, and some aren't marked on the minimap. Check the corridor itself instead of following icons alone. It's easy to spot the route ahead and miss a chest tucked off to the side. You've already spent time getting inside; give the opening area a proper sweep before moving toward The Grand Hoard.
Save room for Aurox's chest
Aurox waits in The Grand Hoard with attacks resembling Avarice's and enough health to make careless positioning costly. Defeat him, then destroy the large central chest to release another group of Treasure Goblins. Clear those before sorting your rewards, including possible Treasure Breach Nightmare Dungeon Sigils. Whether you're comparing cheap D4 items or working entirely with your own drops, keep the same priority: reliable clears and enough survivability to finish the encounter.
