Wirt's Lucky Coins in Diablo 4 Season 15 are made by combining one Splinter of Terror, one Splinter of Destruction, and one Splinter of Hatred in the Horadric Cube. You need the physical consumable items, not simply an active Prime Evil power. When planning D4 Gold expenses for equipment upgrades, keep a separate inventory checklist for these three ingredients.
Unlock the encounters before collecting ingredients
Complete the Season of Hell's Legacy questline to reach the Prime Evil encounters. The story takes you beneath Tristram Cathedral to face Diablo, to Arreat Summit for Baal, and into the Durance of Hate for Mephisto. These encounters introduce the seasonal powers and the activities tied to them.
The largest Waking Nightmares become replayable for rewards on Torment difficulties after their introduction. Pinnacle versions are also available at Torment 10 and above. That higher difficulty is an additional challenge, not a promise that every completion will supply the ingredient you need.
Only one Prime Evil power can be active at a time. Choosing Terror gives you Diablo's periodic Fire damage effect and a progression track affecting Helltide, Infernal Hordes, and the Tree of Whispers. That alignment is a combat and activity choice; it should not be confused with assembling the three physical items for crafting.
Keep the Splinters for the Cube
Check your Consumables inventory for the three named Splinters. Prime Evil encounters and seasonal reputation caches provide routes to additional copies. Activating a Splinter changes your alignment, so reserve the items intended for the recipe. Place one of each in the Horadric Cube and transmute them into Wirt's Lucky Coins; the recipe consumes the ingredients.
Unlock Tristram and use the fountain
Access to Old Tristram requires Deckard's Journey, which begins after reading all ten Deckard's Journals. Complete that quest, then enter Deckard's Memory through the portal in the Imperial Library in Caldeum. On Torment VI or higher, use a coin at the fountain in the southeastern part of Tristram to open the route to Echo of Tristram. The encounter brings Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto together.
A fountain issue that consumed coins without opening the portal was addressed in patch 3.2.1 Hotfix 4 on September 22, 2026. The same update increased the Prime Evil Council's reward cooldown, so opening another encounter does not necessarily mean another immediate reward payout.
Start with an inventory check and identify the missing Splinter before choosing your next activity. Before deciding to buy d4 mats for other equipment projects, write down the ingredients already reserved for your coin recipe and finish the remaining collection or access step.
