What U4GM Learned Testing Diablo 4 Economy

Explore Diablo's PTR economy with a hands-on guide to transmute costs, Greater Temper materials, Tyrael's Boons fees and War Plans gold rewards.

Diablo 4 economy planning on the PTR centers on a 30% Alchemist transmute discount, a costly Greater Temper recipe, and a proposed 5,000,000 gold fee for each Tyrael's Boons point removed. Normal play supplies gold for these costs, while some players consider D4 Gold as an alternative to earning currency through activities; PTR values still need verification before any live planning.

Start with the PTR cost checks

Patch 3.3.0 testing is scheduled from October 27 at 10 a.m. PDT to November 3 at 10 a.m. PST. Update the PTR client, create a test character, and copy a character with a completed campaign if that option is available. Endgame crafting and Tyrael's Boons require access to the relevant progression.

Before spending anything, record your gold, Obducite, and Scrolls of Restoration. Save screenshots and notes after each session because PTR resets can remove characters. The change from PDT to PST also matters when planning a final session.

Measure the Alchemist discount before crafting

Trash for Treasure changes the cost of Alchemist transmutes, with a stated 30% reduction across the available recipes. Forgotten Souls are part of the crafting chain, so their effective acquisition cost is a useful starting point for comparing salvage and sales.

Collect rare and legendary items, then inspect their total vendor sale value before committing the batch. At the Alchemist, open the Trash for Treasure transmute options and record the displayed cost and output for the Forgotten Souls recipe. Compare that result with the gold you would have received from selling; the same items cannot be sold after they are consumed.

Inspect the Obducite and Scrolls of Restoration options separately. Record both the gold fee and material inputs, then compare each displayed cost with its applicable pre-discount value. Do not assume the 30% reduction applies to every input until the interface confirms it; a gold-only discount produces different crafting costs.

Track Greater Temper and respec spending

Greater Temper is described as converting a Tempered Affix into a Greater Affix for 30 Scrolls of Restoration and 1,000 Obducite per attempt. Those materials are the immediate constraint, and repeated attempts can drain a stockpile quickly.

At the crafting interface, select the relevant item and inspect the Greater Temper cost before confirming. Record both material totals before and after the attempt, the resulting affix, and any gold deducted. The material decrease is the useful confirmation; verify rather than assume that unsuccessful results consume the stated materials without a refund or that no extra gold fee applies.

Tyrael's Boons uses points across four paths, and the stated removal fee is 5,000,000 gold per point. Removing all 132 points at that rate would cost 660,000,000 gold, but that calculation depends on every point carrying the same charge.

Open Tyrael's Boons, select an allocated point, and inspect the removal fee before confirming. Check the gold total afterward, then repeat with another allocated point to see if the charge changes with its position. Test partial removal and record each path separately; do not spend the full amount merely to confirm the arithmetic.

Compare activity income with material burn

War Plans Tactics has a Gold reward node with up to three points. Record the gold received per completed activity at each rank, using comparable activities where possible. Divide the gold earned by the time spent to estimate hourly income, then compare it with the displayed costs of your Alchemist cycles.

Marks of Wisdom have a stated PTR cap of 20. Watch the displayed total during activities and record what happens to additional Marks once the cap is reached; do not assume excess Marks are retained. Also check whether they restrict any part of the crafting or Gold reward loop before treating them as its limiting resource.

Run three recorded cycles: complete activities, sell unwanted items, transmute selected materials, and make a Greater Temper attempt when resources allow. Subtract starting gold from ending gold and track the change in each material stock. For a useful per-attempt estimate, include transmute fees and the value of items consumed rather than counting only the final crafting charge.

Next, inspect your diablo 4 gear at the crafting interface, record the displayed Greater Temper price, and compare it with your remaining materials before confirming another attempt. Treat the PTR figures as provisional until the live patch confirms them.
