In Diablo 4, keep Gold reward nodes and save Marks of Wisdom for reward rolls that miss both gold and materials your build needs soon. While activity clears remain the in-game route to gold, some players consider D4 Gold as an alternative to spending more time farming.
Set the tree before spending Marks
Open the War Plans panel, select Tactics, and count your available points before changing a reward node. Tactics points determine which activities and reward types your plan supports; Marks of Wisdom are the separate resource used to replace unwanted node rolls.
For a gold-focused first week, put new points toward Gold reward bias after securing the activity you intend to clear. The supplied planning notes describe reward-bias steps as commonly costing three points on the PTR-shaped tree, but check the displayed cost before committing because the live layout may differ.
Greater Helltide needs its activity unlock before a Gold-focused plan can benefit from those clears. A tree full of Gold rewards does little for your intended route if you have not spent the necessary activity point.
Track each reroll against a spending rule
Reroll a reward node only when it offers neither Gold nor a material your current build expects to spend within the next two days. Keep an existing Gold result instead of risking Marks on a more appealing Unique reward.
Open War Plans, select Tactics, and inspect the reward row you are considering.
Record the current reward and your available Marks before choosing a reroll.
Check the replacement reward displayed on the node and record it alongside your remaining Marks.
Stop on Gold or a useful near-term material. Keep an acceptable result even if a neighboring node looks more exciting.
The changed reward text and lower Marks total are the practical checks that a reroll was spent. Do not assume a favorable replacement is guaranteed, and do not repeat the action simply because the first result is less dramatic than a Unique reward.
The planning notes suggest a practical budget near twenty thoughtful rerolls for many early trees, not a confirmed system limit. Reserve a handful of Marks for launch-week corrections and unexpected poor rolls; the right floor depends on your remaining stack.
Match rewards to the activities you actually run
Put the first relevant activity point into Helltide if Greater Helltide is your planned gold source, then consider Pit points once your gold route is stable. Pit progress can wait if tempering costs are already draining the gold needed to improve your equipment.
Gold should cover your expected tempering, masterworking, and repair costs without forcing sales of useful legendary items. If your gold supply becomes comfortable but Obducite or another build material holds you back, direct subsequent points toward that reward instead of rebuilding the entire Gold path at once.
Nightmare Dungeon-style clears still serve glyph progress, but assigning every early point to glyph rewards can undermine a gold-first plan. Set a weekly point budget for those activities before spending, and compare it with the clears you realistically expect to finish.
Use Eternal notes for a Seasonal start
Eternal characters can be used to inspect the available Tactics paths, node text, and point costs, but Seasonal characters need their own points spent again. Write down the choices and costs rather than relying only on a screenshot, since the interface order may change.
The supplied schedule places the end of March of the Goblins on November 4, 2026, and the Season 16 launch window on December 1. Treat that timing and the PTR-shaped tree as planning information rather than a guarantee of the final live configuration.
Before committing more Marks, return to War Plans, confirm your intended activity is unlocked, and check that a reserve remains. If you also choose to buy diablo 4 gear, review your build's material needs first so the next reward choice supports equipment you actually plan to use.
